Our Sweet Marcie Gained Her Wings Today, Daddy

 

Today was so hard, Daddy. 

You once spared me extra pain by sending our sweet lab, Patty, into her Eternal rest. You buried her next to the house so that all I would have to do was grieve.

Our sweet little boxer, Marcie, has had a rough year. Since you went to be with Jesus, her back legs started to not work the way they used to. She would try to walk and just stumble. We tried keeping her in her crate for a month with medication and rest. No change.

The vet gave us the unfortunate diagnosis: disc deterioration in her back. It was irreversible. Apparently, it is common in some breeds.

A year passed and she went from slightly annoyed with her back end not working properly...to not being able to walk. I would have to carry her everywhere...Outside to potty, bring her her food bowl and water, and just watch her become more and more miserable. 

It was time to end her misery. We did not want to wait UNTIL she was in pain. We wanted for her to have dignity and be as comfortable as possible. Her two best friends had their moment with her: Dan via messenger, and our next-door neighbor came and just petted her in silence. 

The drive to the veterinarian's office was so hard. My eyes are still red from how many tears I have shed today. The doctors and nurses were so kind and understanding. She went to see you and Jesus painlessly...

I do not struggle with seeing her again. I truly believe that God's creation will know re-uniting in the New Eden. I will meet you in that illustrious garden someday, and I wonder if you might even surprise me and lead me to see our fur babies again in that beautiful backyard: Patty, Bella, and Marcie!

Marcie blessed us with so many smiles. Our hearts are shattered as she has exchanged this measly backyard for the Glory you know all too well! May she grace your presence with her sweet smile and sweet kisses, and may her legs be swift as she runs with her friends across the Plains of Eternity!

Songs in Daddy's Honor

Tonight, I  simply want to share with readers the song s electi ons for Dad’s photo presentation during the  visitation. After choosing at least 50 photos from Dad’s life, the funeral home compiled a beautiful video tribute to him that my family will always cherish. The first selection was Sammy Fain’s famous song “I’ll Be Seeing You”, sang by the world-renowned Frank Sinatra. As the photos were displaying on the screen, these stunning yet disheartening lyrics filled the air… “ I'll be seeing you in all the old, familiar places that this heart of mine embraces…all day through. In that small café, the park across the way…” These words are very befitting as some of my most precious memories with Dad were walking along the jogging path that circles the small park facing Mom and Dad’s back porch. The Visitation and Viewing

The next several days in Canyon, Texas were a blur. Who knew what day was what? Who really cared? All we knew was the visitation for Dad would be on Sunday evening, and that the funeral would be Monday afternoon. To be honest, I know we visited Dad at the funeral home many times. The staff there had done a tremendous job. Dad looked so peaceful, lying there in his Texas A&M ball cap, his reading glasses, and his red button-up shirt. He looked like he was simply taking a well-deserved nap… ~ Sunday evening arrived. Family and friends came from all over the state, far and near to hug my Mother, Heather, and I, pay their respects, share a few tears, and give their love. It was painful and beautiful at the same time. Dad touched so many lives. I am forever grateful to all who either came or who understandably sent their love and remained socially distant because of COVID.
